History of Fulton County Georgia

History of Fulton County Georgia

Stone Mountain (Atlanta area

Fulton county was founded from the western half of DeKalb county by the Act of the legislature, with Atlanta city becoming the county seat. The county's boundaries continued to increase, with some parts of Milton and Campbell counties becoming part of Fulton county. The financial crises during the Great Depression greatly affected Milton and Campbell counties. This resulted in the completion of the county, with the entire Milton and Campbell counties being added as part of Fulton county. The annexation of Milton and Campbell explains the current long shape of the county, which covers about 130km of the Chattahoochee River.
With the first settlers of the area being trespassers, violence characterized society's early years after the American Civil War. The violence greatly affected the blacks and hindered business development in the county. However, the Great and Little Coves, which make up the most part of the county, brought up the area's prosperity through the successful establishment of Gristmill and tanneries. Failure to establish railroad relations with other markets led the county to remain a remote area until Pennsylvania Turnpike appeared. Currently, the county is the leading manufacturing center, especially for hydraulic equipment, creating many job opportunities for its residents.
