History of Columbus

History of Columbus

Real estate in Columbus was not always in high demand, of course. Before colonization, the area was the territory of the Creek Indians, who had long had treaty and trading relationships with nearby European-American settlers. In 1828, Columbus was founded on a bluff at the head of the navigable portion of the Chattahoochee River. The Treaty of Washington required the creeks and other indigenous peoples of the region to move west, in 1826, and many had. Those who remained were forced off their lands in 1836. The Chattahoochee River allowed the shipment of cotton from local plantations to New Orleans and on to international markets like that of Liverpool in England. This wealth led to textile mills going up in the area, and by 1860 Columbus had become a major industrial center of the region. After the Civil War, more industrialization followed and the city grew rapidly. The 2oth century saw a decline in downtown Columbus and a rush of affluence to the suburbs, but urban renewal and revitalization efforts begun in the 1990s have been extremely successful.

Is Buying a Condo In Columbus A Good Move For You And Your Family?
It could be. Of all the reasons to buy a condo in Columbus, GA, though, the only ones that matter are the ones which make sense to you. If you aren’t a student or a parent, then the quality of the local schools and easy access to some of the best universities in the state won’t make much of a difference. If you are retired, then the strong local job market won’t appeal. If you’re looking for a single-family home, none of the condos in Columbus will be worth looking at. But if any or all of that does appeal to you, well, Columbus might be just the place for you.
