History of Wake County North Carolina

Yates Water Mill Raleigh North Carolina

Wake County was initially part of the Tuscarora nation before the English colonization. In 1771, Wake County was created from Cumberland, Orange, and Johnson counties. It wasn't until 1792, after the American Revolution, that the leaders decided to locate the capital of North Carolina to Wake County. The County remained rural throughout World War 1, World War 2, and the Civil War, with most of the town's people being farmers.

Although it has increasingly urbanized, the County still has some of its past appearances, and most of it remains rural. It is not necessarily bad because the County is fostered by historical societies and other groups that promote community pride.
