Tarrant County was one of 26 counties called into existence out of the Peters Colony and was established in 1849 and founded in 1850, the following year. Fort Worth is the county seat and the largest city in Tarrant County. It is the second most populous county found in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex with its roots lying in the Old West and an interesting heritage which can be traced to the era of the cattle and the cowboy drives that passed through the county. The Tarrant County Courthouse is a historical building in the county which was completed in 1895 and it was built in two years.

The county has its location in north-central Texas with 2,110,640 residents according to the 2020 census and a population of 2,443 per square mile. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 902 square miles, of which land takes up 864 square miles and 39 square miles 4.3% taken up by water.

The County has an ethnic composition of 42.87% White alone (N.H.), 16.99% Black or African American alone (N.H.), 0.33% Native American or Alaska Native alone (NH), 6.05% Asian alone (N.H.), 0.20% Pacific Islander alone (N.H.), 0.39% Some Other Race alone (N.H.), 3.74% Mixed Race/Multi-Racial (N.H.), 29.42% Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Temperatures in the county range from an average low of 35° F in January to an average high of 96° in July, while rainfall averages a bit more than thirty-two inches per year, and the growing season extends for about 230 days.
