El Paso’s history stretches to the 15th century when Spanish conquerors and settlers settled in the small village of El Paso. In its earliest years, the 17th and 18th Century El Paso belonged to Mexico, albeit it did not play any significant political role. However, in the 19th century, El Paso experienced several political changes. First, it was a concessionary city after the 1836 Texan revolution, governed by Texas and Mexico. However, in 1848 El Paso was ceded from Mexico and officially became a Texan county. El Paso developed aided by trade and as an administrative center for El Paso County in the following years. The first layout plan of modern-day El Paso was drawn by Anson Mill in 1859. This is the plan that defines downtown El Paso. The critical factor of growth was the arrival of the Southern Pacific, Atchison, Santa Fe and Topeka railroads. Over the 20th century, there was the first settlement of Americans in El Paso, especially after President Tuft met his Mexican counterpart in 1908. However, there was an influx of Mexican refugees after the Mexican revolution leading to a demographic shift. Through the years, El Paso has been a city defined by the hopes of immigrants to the potentialities of the American dream. Also, a change of Americans to utilize the opportunities that the border city presents.

Visit Keystone Heritage Park and Botanical Gardens for an extensive nature tour, an outdoor park restored in a 4000-year-old village.
To get the parent of the year award, take your kids to the Western Playland Amusement Park. Have fun with your kids on the El Bandido roller coaster and compete in the Tsunami tidal waves.
