History in Colorado

The history of Colorado goes back more than 10 thousand years. Prior to the settlement of Europeans, the state was inhabited by Native Americans. This is why the state has such a rich culture that is so deeply influenced by Native American culture.

Local music, site names, dance forms, food, and gastronomy—all have a strong mark on the state’s deeply rooted Native American history.

Remains of Native American culture and dwellings can still be found in Mesa Verde National Park and is quite a popular tourist destination. It was only after the 1840s that non-native Americans first settled in the region.

Climate and Weather

Climate/Weather

Colorado experiences a mix of climates due to the high variations in its geography. Having mountains and plains as well as sand, Colorado experiences extreme differences in temperature even within short distances.

Eastern Colorado has lots of plains, while the western region of the state has canyons and plateaus. Mountains take up less space in the state but are responsible for the climatic changes of the state.

These regions experience varying degrees of climatic conditions, including severe weather. This includes heavy rain with thunderstorms, forest fires, droughts, floods, and high winds. Tornadoes are imminent every year between May and August. Some regions such as the plains are known to experience a rather uniform climate.
