History

History

history arkansas

During prehistoric times, Chinook people occupied the land- the Clackamas and Multnomah. The early inhabitants carried out fishing and trading activities. Their contact with the Europeans led to the decimation of the native tribes from the land. Many pioneer settlers started arriving in Willamette Valley through the Oregon Trail. Two business partners, William Overton and Asa Lovejoy founded today's Portland. In later years, a major fire swept the downtown, destroying properties worth $1.3 million. To recover, the first Morrison Street Bridge was opened. As a result, Portland became a major port in the Pacific Northwest. The direct access of the railroad made it easier to transport goods from the northwest to the inland cities. Portland rapidly grew, emerging with the Albina and East Portland. Being the host city of the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition, the event contributed to the city's recognition. Population in the City increased massively. The post-war led to a promising city full of abundant nature, cheaper rents, job opportunities, and urban growth boundaries. In return, Portland saw the arrival of people in their 20s and 30s hoping to grab the opportunities. The establishment of Athlete industries led to the economic bubble of the City. Portland emerged as a creative city with a high population to what it is today.
