Prior to the arrival of Europeans, the Dakota Sioux were the main residents of the region. The French were the first to arrive in the area in 1680. Gradually, more European-American settlers arrived in the city, competing for resources with the Native Americans. The U.S. Army built Fort Snelling in 1819 at the southern edge of Minneapolis to discourage warring between the Ojibwe and Dakota in northern Minnesota and redirect Indian trade away from the British-Canadian traders. The establishment of the fort attracted settlers, traders, and merchants, spurring growth in the region and its surroundings. Minneapolis was incorporated in 1867 and later merged with the east-bank city of St. Anthony in 1872. Minneapolis developed around the source of Saint Anthony Falls, the highest waterfall on the Mississippi River. A lumber industry was built close to the forests in northern Minnesota, and 17 Sawmills operated on the power from the waterfall. Due to the occupational hazards of milling, six companies manufactured artificial limbs by the 1890s. Minneapolis was the world's flour milling leader for 50 years. A single mill at Washburn-Crosby could mill 12 million loaves of bread daily, and by 1900, over 14% of America's grain was milled in Minneapolis.

Basketball fans can watch the four-time WNBA Champions Minnesota Lynx or NBA side Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center. NFL fans can see the Minnesota Vikings in action inside the state-of-the-art U.S. Bank Stadium, built like a Viking ship in the center of Downtown Minneapolis.

If you prefer college sports, go across the river to the University of Minnesota to catch the Golden Gophers basketball games at The Barn, football games at T.C.F. Bank Stadium, and Volleyball games at the Maturi Pavillion, or hockey games inside the 3M Arena at Mariucci.

⁠Explore The City's Riverfront
No matter the time of the year, the waterfront along the Mississippi is always a breathtaking sight if you live in Minneapolis. Walk or jug across the Stone Arch Bridge and take a break to see the incredible power of St. Anthony Falls, which powered the milling industry all through the 19th and 20th centuries. ⁠Go For A Walk On The Endless Bridge
If you are interested in taking a tour of architectural wonders or seeing a show in Minneapolis, head to The Guthrie Theater on 2nd Street. Located between Mill City Museum and Gold Medal Park, the Guthrie, the new version of the theater after the first one closed in 2006, hosts shows on two stages inside the building. It is also home to two architectural oddities.

The first is the Endless Bridge, extending 178 feet over the Street toward the Mississippi River and gives you an excellent view of the riverfront. The second one is the Amber Box on the 9th floor, which extends 15 feet from the building. These two architectural oddities are things you have to experience yourself at least once if you find yourself in Minneapolis.

⁠Participate In Festivals
Residents of Minneapolis do not take its enormous waterways for granted. The city has a festival lined up to appreciate the gift of water in its territory. The Minneapolis Aquatennial Festival occurs annually during the third full week of July. The festival is a four-day celebration that has been annual since 1940 and celebrates the city's famous rivers, lakes, and streams. Events that take place during the festival include a skateboarding competition known as AquaJam and the LifeTime Torchlight 5K, which involves running and biking. Get out to enjoy the Target Fireworks on Saturday evening of the festival. P.S., if you haven't experienced these enormous fireworks before, get ready to have your mind blown away as it is one of the top ten largest in the country.

One of the best things about buying a mobile home in Minneapolis is its food scene. You can start your day with a Dinkytown omelet or eggs benedict at Al's Breakfast in Dinkytown. Burgers for lunch? Try out the "Jucy Lucy" at Matt's Bar in Powderhorn. Dinner at a high-end restaurant? Enjoy dishes prepared by James Beard winner Gavin Kaysen at Spoon and Stable in Warehouse District.
