History of Minneapolis

History of Minneapolis

minnesota history

Before the first Europeans arrived and settled, Minneapolis was territory belonging to the Dakota Sioux people. The first French explorers arrived in the 1680s, but no major settlements were established. It was many years later in 1819 when the first settlement was established at Fort Snelling. In the 1870s, lumber was Minneapolis’ primary industry. Between the years 1880 and 1930, Minneapolis was the world leader in flour milling. Fast forward another few decades to the 1950s and 1960s which saw Minneapolis undergoing heavy urban renewal. All of this change has made Minneapolis the city it is today – a major industrial, commercial and cultural hub for the Midwest states.

Linden Hills Linden Hills is one of the more expensive neighborhoods in Minneapolis, but this is because of its position on Lake Harriet. Lynnhurst The Lynnhurst neighborhood is predominantly up-scale and, just like Linden Hills, many of the plots of land for sale offer views of Lake Harriet. Page You can generally find larger plots of land in the neighborhood of Page, which is located just south of Minnehaha Creek and Diamond Lake Road. Homes in this neighborhood consist of single family dwellings with large yards, so if you are after a bit of privacy and space, be sure to check land for sale in the neighborhood of Page. University Neighborhood The University neighborhood is a popular one, so you may have to look a little harder to find land for sale here. Naturally, most of this neighborhood is occupied by the nearby University of Minnesota, so it offers plenty of museums, cafes and bars for residents.
