Real Estate Opportunities in Green Bay are on the Rise
A nationally known town because of its NFL team, Green Bay, Wisconsin, has a population of just over 100,000 residents but has a friendly, small-town charm. With everything from beautiful parks and family-friend activities to companies large and small, the city is the perfect place to buy a home. And, for those times when you need a taste of the big city, Milwaukee is just 90 miles south.
Situated on a subbasin of Lake Michigan, the city is the third-largest in Wisconsin, behind Milwaukee and Madison as well as the county seat for Brown County. The city has an excellent school district, top-ranked colleges, and plenty of year-round entertainment and shopping.
History of Green Bay
History of Green Bay
Green Bay has the special distinction of being the oldest European settlement in Wisconsin, joining several Native American tribes in the area, including the Menominee and Ho Chunk (Winnebago). The earliest documented meeting between the Ho Chunk tribe and Eurpoeans dates back to 1634 when Jean Nicolet came through the area on his way to find a better trade route to China via Canada. A trading post was set up in the Green Bay area, with beaver pelts being the main source of currency. Many French Canadians came down to the area and over the years were joined by immigrants from Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Norway, and Sweden. Wisconsin’s first newspaper, The Green Bay Intelligencer, was started here, and the city was also the first to receive mail delivery. Green Bay also holds claim to the invention of the world’s first splinter-free toilet paper.

Climate in Green Bay Folks who call Green Bay home get to experience all four seasons and all the temperature variability that comes with them. Summers are pleasant, with evenings cool enough that you might slip on your favorite Packer hoodie or flannel shirt. Winters are cold, like wearing your long underwear cold, and snow falls often enough that Green Bay homeowners tend to own snowblowers so they can clear out their driveways. While snow, rain, sleet, thunderstorms, hail, and lightning are not unheard of, tornadoes are very rare up in northern Wisconsin.
