Fairfax County started humbly as a small community in 1805. The Fairfax County we have now is a much different picture from what it was then. For instance, Fairfax City was known as the Sleepy Town of Providence. In the 19th century, the dairy industry transformed the region into a commerce hub. The booming dairy industry revolutionized the region’s economy, further triggering the growth of and construction of homes, schools, churches, and different churches.
The Town of Providence later became the Town of Fairfax in 1874. Fairfax gained city status in 1961. The new city resulted in the many schools, hospitals, and other amenities that have continued to benefit Fairfax residents.
Fairfax doesn’t have so much history to talk about. Still, it has transformed from a “sleepy town” to a busy city. Commerce is flourishing in Fairfax County. Most people own their personal homes, making a profound statement about Fairfax’s economy.

The history of Fairfax dates back to the 1700s. We owe Fairfax County to one of the noblest English men, Lord Thomas Fairfax. Lord Fairfax was granted over 5 million acres of land in Northern Virginia. Lord Fairfax became a great friend to George Washington, who later became the first president of the United States.
