The rich history of Burlington holds many tales about the development of its people, nature, and community. Its name has two supposed origins —most people believe that the name is a tribute to Burling family, the pioneer landowners of the area; others believe the name is an honor to Richard Boyle, the third Earl of Burlington. Mid-20th century transformed the primary industry of Burlington from manufacturing to the service sector, primarily tourism.
