In 1889, some 10,000 people lived in a part of the "Unassigned Lands" that would later become Oklahoma City, known by residents as OKC. Anton Classen, Henry Overholser, John Shartel, and James W. Maney were some of the early leaders of the city's growth. In 1907, when OKC joined the Union, Guthrie was the capital of Oklahoma Territory. Nonetheless, it quickly became the new state's population and commercial center. Soon after, the capital was moved from Guthrie to OKC and the city remained the state's capital to this day. Before World War II, city authorities built a lot of stockyards in the city, which brought jobs and money from Chicago and Omaha, Nebraska. Following the discovery of oil in 1928, the area became a significant source of oil for the country. Finally, after World War II, they built the Interstate Highway System here, thereby making the city a major intersection because of the I-35, I-40, and I-44. The city initiated the Metropolitan Area Projects (MAPS) in 1993, which aims to rebuild the city's core with civic projects to make the downtown more active and vibrant. The latest enhancements include detailed information on notable investigations, including Timothy McVeigh's vehicle when he was pulled over and arrested and the trail of evidence left behind. Oklahoma City Museum of Art
This has one of the world's largest Dale Chihuly glass collections and the 55-foot Elenor Blake Kirkpatrick Memorial Tower inside the atrium. Chihuly is regarded as the most crucial glass artist since Louis Comfort Tiffany, and the museum's collection includes pieces from more than three decades of his career. Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center
The Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center is a world-class facility for exhibitions, performance, education, and stunning addition to the OKC skyline. It is a hub for artistic experiences of all kinds. Oklahoma City Zoo's Sanctuary Asia
This must-see sight is a new zoo that serves as a sanctuary for Asian elephants, red pandas, Indian rhinoceros, langurs, Komodo dragons, Tanuki, or raccoon dogs as they are locally called, and cassowary birds. Additionally, it includes a two-story restaurant with views of the elephant, rhino, and Komodo dragon habitats and a splash zone for kids in the courtyard during the summer.
