History of Maine
History of Maine
Looking for land in Maine? Originally part of Massachusetts in the late 1700s, Maine eventually was granted secession in 1820, becoming the 23rd State. As part of the Missouri Compromise, it was granted secession as a free state to keep balance between slave states in the South, in this case Missouri, and free states in the North. Originally home to hardened New England settlers, today's Mainers are similar to their ancestors, in that they are tough, but friendly and private, but with a strong sense of community.
Weather and Climate
Weather and Climate
Located in the far Northeast of the U.S., Maine is one of the northernmost mainland states. So it has a similar climate to the rest of New England, with a distinct difference: exceptionally long, cold, snowy winters. Maine has a humid continental climate and though it has balmy, sunny summers, with occasional rain throughout, the winters take up about half the year.
Fall is a beautiful time of year in Maine when the Pine State’s green forests turn red, orange, and yellow in a beautiful display of color. The temperature floats around the low 60’s to mid 50’s in the fall.
Expect the Atlantic ocean to dictate the weather a little more directly in the coastal regions. The shoulder seasons can be very wet and the winter will bring a lot of snow in these areas, but of course the upside is that when summer rolls around the beaches can be enjoyed in warm sunshine, without much rain.
