Ahhhh, the Evergreen State
Beauty of Washington
Just the thought of it evokes a complete tantalization of the senses. The bright, earthy scent of Douglas Fir, the sparkle of sunlight tossed from a wave in the Puget Sound, and the awe-inspiring majesty of the Olympics that command mountains of attention. Washington, a state fortunate enough to possess two major mountain ranges, is bisected west to east by the Cascade Range whose mountains run north to south. With peaks cresting over 14,000 feet, two diverse climates are formed: one semi-arid and filled with the scents of sagebrush and geologic wonderment; and another on the west side of the state where trees and coastlines reign supreme and mossy, verdant landscapes drip with possibility. It’s no wonder that land for sale in Washington is highly sought after, because, on land in Washington, you’re in the middle of everywhere.
Things to Do in Washington
No matter what part of the state you hail from, Washingtonians overwhelmingly agree that outdoor recreation is paramount.
Whether it’s downhill fun at one of the state’s numerous skiing destinations, boating on Lake Washington or Lake Chelan, touring a themed town like bavarian Leavenworth or “wild west” Winthrop, or simply shopping the wares at Pike Place Market in Seattle; Washington residents value being outside and connecting to the natural environment that provides the backdrop for the jaw-dropping scenery they are so accustomed to. (And that is a good reason alone to shop land for sale in Washington.)
Washington State is a hiker’s paradise and visitors and residents can hike the entirety of the state via the Pacific Crest Trail or can explore The Wonderland Trail within Mount Rainier National Park that encircles the active stratovolcano.
If maritime adventures are what really row your boat, plan a trip to the state’s San Juan Islands, located in the Puget Sound (also known as the Salish Sea) to experience whale-watching, beach-comb, rekindling romance or make lasting family memories.
History of Washington
History of Washington
The history of Washington is rich and storied and includes thousands of years of oral history carefully preserved over generations by the original stewards of the land; Indigenous peoples whose 125 distinct Northwest tribes and 50 languages and dialects were in existence before the arrival of Euro-Americans in this region. (Source)
Washington, the northwesternmost state in the contiguous United States, saw its first settlers in the way of fur trappers and maritime explorers, and then waves of enterprising, rugged individualists came to stake their territorial claims not on land for sale in Washington, but on free land that was being given to those brave enough to tame it as part of the Donation Land Claim Act of 1850-1853.
A region that was, at first, part of Oregon Territory from 1848 to 1853, and then was established as Washington Territory; Washington finally entered Statehood as the 42nd State in 1889.
Washington is the only state to be named after a U.S. President, and located its capital in Olympia, a city named for its resplendent view of the Olympic Mountains to the northwest.
Construction of the Capitol was completed in 1928, and the building’s dome is the 4th largest free-standing masonry dome in the world. (Source)
